It makes no real sense to me that the agency that builds and operates the region’s public transportation system and the agency that plans routes and allocates funding for the region’s transportation are located in different buildings and duplicate many of their staff functions. One result of this balkanization is that St. Louis has a highly efficient public transportation system that has run out of money and doesn’t always deliver workers and residents to the places they need to be.

Metro and the East-West Gateway Coordinating Council need to be on the same page.

If it would help, I would support Metro’s president Bob Baer as the executive director of EWGCC: one person, two jobs.
