I donʼt always see eye to eye with state representative Jeanette Mott Oxford. If, however, she has been excluded from a special legislative committee in Jefferson City because of her sexual orientation, then I strongly agree with her that a mistake has been made.
The Kansas City Star has reported that Rep. Mott Oxford, who represents parts of the City, wants to know why she was left off a Democratic slot on the Special Standing Committee on Children and Families, despite the recommendation of the Democratic caucus that she be included. She has served on other committees concerned with childrenʼs issues, and has years of professional experience on the subject. As an openly gay person, she is concerned that her orientation is the reason she has been denied a seat at the table this time.
It should not be.
