Early this afternoon, I plan to present a Mayor’s Spirit of St. Louis Award to Arcturis, a St. Louis-based design firm that recently moved its offices to the central business district. Arcturis is the accomplishment of Patricia Whitaker, who has grown a one-person shop into a multi-disciplined enterprise that generates more than $24 million a year in revenue by providing professional services — including planning, architecture, interior design, and graphic design — to communities, major corporations, higher education, the hospitality industry, financial institutions and public facilities. They’ve worked on, among other projects, the stunning Chess Club in the CWE, suites at America’s Center, and the design of a project to connect downtown to the Arch grounds.

A Twitter correspondent from Arcturis has tipped me that she and her colleagues have been asked to “dress cool” for my visit. I promise to be impressed.
