Here is what I told members of the Osage Nation Congress about Sugar Loaf Mound, the last known Indian burial mound in our Mound City:

Sugar Loaf Mound has been the focal point of preservation efforts by a number of groups and elected officials in St. Louis since the real estate on which it sits has become available. I believe that the Osage Nation is the most appropriate owner for this mound. The Nation could operate the mound as a private sanctuary, or — better — as an interpreted site open to the public.

The future of Sugar Loaf Mound should be yours to oversee. I stand ready to support and assist the Osage Nation and Chief Jim Gray in any way I can.
