One in three women in the US experiences domestic violence. Too often, though, the issue is overlooked in discussions about crime and its costs.
The St. Louis Family Justice Center downtown is a “one stop shop” at which women who have experienced domestic violence can find a variety of advocates — including police officers, counselors, lawyers, and medical professionals who will help them build safer, more independent lives for themselves and their children.
I worked hard with a lot of partners to get the center open. That it has been a success is satisfying, heart-breaking, and a major financial challenge. Since the STLFJC opened 16 months ago, it has seen the number of clients it serves more than double — and its expenses increase commensurately.
Please help the work of this important City resource for women and their children by sending a check to the Family Violence Council, 1139 Olive, St. Louis MO 63101.
