Two bits of recent news suggest that the World Champion St. Louis Cardinals are serious about defending an important title: Great Sports Venue.

Yesterday, Cards president Mark Lamping announced that the team has been training its ushers for the last few weeks to implement a new non-smoking policy throughout Busch Stadium this season. Combined with a 1995 ban against smoking in the seats, this new policy makes the ballpark a safer and healthier place for fans.

Last week, the Cards announced that one of the post-first season finishing touches put on Busch Stadium has brought the facility into compliance with the "parity" portion of a state law regarding bathrooms. The Cards already far exceeded building codes on the number of bathroom fixtures — now the number is properly balanced.
