Regular readers know that I am a supporter of St. Louis Community College and its energetic chancellor, Zelema Harris. By instilling confidence and teaching vital skills, community colleges, like SLCC, play important roles in preparing students for university studies, better-paying jobs, and more productive lives.
That’s why am glad that the St. Louis Development Corporation is helping Dr. Harris and SLCC to prepare a site for the new Harrison Education Center on Cass Avenue. Located across from Vashon High School, the new Education Center — a building designed to meet LEED Gold standards will provide a variety of skills training opportunities in a modern setting convenient for residents of the City’s north side. It is expected that $200,000 in EPA funding through the SLDC will be made available for this project.
It should be considered money well spent.
