In an example that others should note, a partnership of the Missouri Charter Schools Association, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and those who believe in expanding charter school options has produced a new framework that increases access to charter schools by children who live outside of the state's largest cities, increases the accountability of sponsors and charter schools, and creates a new way to sponsor schools. Governor Nixon's signature this week has made it state law.

This is good news for parents, children, good teachers, and employers. It is bad news for bad charter schools, inattentive school boards, and unengaged sponsors.
