There is a new analysis of crime statistics that moves the City into the “safe” middle of the list of safe cities. An earlier ranking, by a different group, placed the City near the “dangerous” top of the unsafe cities roster.
Neither analysis means much of anything. Our geography determines our rankings. If the city limits extended to Clayton, U City, Shrewsbury, and Webster - current City residents would be “statistically safer” on these highly publicized indexes, without any change in the current crime rate.
The City of St. Louis has a large number of safe neighborhoods within the city limits, a small number of unsafe ones. Our task is to maintain the safe ones and improve the dangerous ones.
