Ron Jackson deserves to have a good public school named after him.
I thought of this when I learned that Ron has been selected as the new executive director of St. Louis for Kids, a not-for-profit group that works to improve the quality of after-school programs in St. Louis. He was previously the assistant director.
Ron has served four years, all of them wearily contentious, as a member of the St. Louis Board of Education. He is a founding member of the After School For All Partnership, a partnership of advocates that I helped create. And he serves vocally and usefully on the Mayor’s Commission for Children, Youth and Families.
I am grateful for Ron’s leadership in making sure that all children have access to great schools and high quality after-school programs, and delighted at his promotion.
