Later today, I will be congratulating and thanking the ten winners of the annual Mayor’s Holiday Card contest. There were some great entries from the City’s 2nd through 6th graders this year, but these ten winners (and, especially, the first-place finisher) stood out.
As you can imagine, picking a winner is tough. This is all permanent refrigerator door stuff: the cream of the crayon crop.
Artistry is certainly the biggest element in my decision, but the worry of missing a concealed message or offending several hundred voting reindeer has me checking my list the requisite two (hundred) times. And, of course, my wife and I have to agree on the top design, because it will be our Official Holiday Card.
Good work, kids, parents, and teachers. If you have signed up to receive updates from this website, you will have your own chance to see and rank all the designs.
(UPDATE: Mayor Slay and the 10 winners are shown in this image.)
