Governor Jay Nixon announced today he wants to expand Missouri's Medicaid program. I stood with Governor Nixon today because of some very compelling numbers:

220,000 or more currently uninsured Missourians will get health care coverage

24,000 new jobs - in health care, food service, real estate and retail - will be created in 2014 alone if the program is expanded

856 million dollars in state and local revenue and $1.4 billion in federal taxes will be generated by that new employment through 2020

8.2 billion dollars from the federal government will pay for the expansion through 2019. During the same period, the state's share will be $332.9 million.

Frankly, he had me at 220,000 PEOPLE.
