The encampment(s) of people on the north riverfront will be moved this summer. When assessment, evaluation, and education are complete, the people now living there will be matched to better places to live and the services they need.
The riverfront tent cities began as compromises "for a short period of time" and depending on evidence that the camps would be safe. More than 80 police calls for service and a murder later, it is clear that one side, at least, did not abide by the agreement. So, the agreement will end.
Allowing the encampments to remain, in light of the actual conditions there, is not humane ' and is also unnecessary. The region has the resources available.
