Congratulations to the Lt. Robert E. Lee, the replica riverboat that has been moored for years on the St. Louis and Kimmswick riverfronts. The St. Charles City Council overruled that city’s Landmarks Commission and development agency and declared the 1969 restaurant boat a St. Charles landmark. That decision makes it more likely that the Lee, once a local attraction, will reopen. St. Charles hopes to collect $500 a month in rent from the boat’s owner, after credits for its refurbishment.
I can recall dining on the Lee a few times, though my memories of it are not as vivid as of the SS. Admiral, a faux riverboat with a much more colorful past.
Anchors aweigh, and away.
