It took me an hour to walk back to my hotel from my seat at the Presidential Inaugural That gave me time to reflect on what I had just witnessed: the swearing-in of the country’s first African American president, before a crowd of unprecedented size and diversity, in a peaceful transition of power between parties and between generations.

It was an American moment, in every good sense of that adjective.

It was the most inspiring moment I have experienced in my political life.
