Were I Bob Baer, I’m not sure I’d have even answered my phone when I got the call to return to Metro as its top official. After several intervening decades of a distinguished career as president or director at some of the region’s largest and most successful private companies, no one would have blamed me for turning down the job and wishing a different exec good luck.

Bob Baer, though, doesn’t say no when St. Louis asks.

In a public service career parallel to his business one, Bob has been a St. Louis Police Board commissioner, a Metropolitan Sewer District trustee, and a president of the Regional Convention & Sports Complex Authority — tough assignments that he accepted at the very moment those public agencies were struggling with major challenges.

I am confident that Bob will do a great job of restoring public trust in Metro’s leadership and direction.
