Today, the team that put together our plan to reform the Firemen's Retirement System explained the legislation to the Board of Aldermen's Public Safety Committee.

After the meeting, Sam Dotson, the deputy mayor for operations, asked the committee's chairman, Alderman Greg Carter, if he was ready to bring Board Bills 270 and 271 up for a committee vote this Thursday. (That would give the full Board of Aldermen enough time to consider and pass the bills.)

Ald.Carter asked Sam to meet one more time with the firefighters to see if the brick wall they had encountered in Jefferson City has changed any minds on issues they had been unwilling to discuss in January, in December, or with the City's Pension Task Force over the past several years.

That meeting will happen - and I have instructed the City's representatives to look for areas of agreement.

I thank Ald. Carter for his agreement.
