“An arch consists of two weaknesses, which, leaning on each other, become a strength.”-Leonardo DaVinci

The St. Louis Arch is the archetype of our City. It is the symbol of our strength, our civic pride, our past and our present. And our future. It challenges us to remember the last 50 years of our City since its completion and look forward to building and growing our City in the next 50. It is a magnet that pulls our region together and welcomes the world (over 130 million visitors) to our front door.

I have been lucky enough to have worked downtown for the past 45 years of my life and see the City evolve under the Arch. And as we embark on our City’s next chapter, I am excited to see the CityArchRiver project bring a newness and energy to the Arch grounds, bolstering the City and the region. I am incredibly proud of how much public and private support has gone into making the Arch an ever greater symbol of our City’s prosperity and unrelenting strength.

October 28 2015 has been proclaimed the “Gateway Arch 50th Anniversary Day”in the City of St. Louis.
