What happens when we hold ourselves accountable for the outcomes?
In early 2003, a spate of injuries hit the Fire Department. I asked Chief Sherman George to look into the causes of the injuries. He reported back that the injuries were preventable and that he was going to take action to improve safety.
His changes are paying off.
According to a report delivered recently at CitiView: the number of injuries has gone down as the Chief’s changes have been implemented. “Injury absences” in the fiscal year that just ended were down 21 percent, compared to FY 2003.
I congratulate Chief George and the Fire Department.
