Would you like to improve your own business — and make a big difference for some of the City’s best young people?

There’s something you can do.

SLATE’s Tom Jones and I have spent part of the last several weeks looking for jobs. As part of my Youth Summer Jobs Initiative, Tom and I have been trying to identify 500 summer jobs that will provide eight-week, minimum wage employment for 500 City youths, ages 16 — 21. So far, we have found City employers willing to set aside 300 jobs for the program. We need 200 more jobs before the summer starts.

These are good kids, who want to work and be part of a team. They’ve all undergone job readiness training and orientation. Meeting these young people now will give your company a leg up on your competitors in identifying and hiring strong minority candidates for future employment.

If you are interested in hiring youths in the Mayor’s Youth Summer Jobs Initiative, contact Michelle Duvall at SLATE, (314) 589-8061.
