I was deeply saddened by the passing of former Lieutenant Governor Harriett Woods. She will be remembered as a devoted public servant and as an advocate for equal opportunities for women.

Harriett practiced a sort of politics that has sadly grown out of fashion: she would rather make an ally than an enemy, change a mind than force her point. She always had a lesson and smile handy for anyone she thought could benefit from either.

We’ll miss her.
