I was just thinking about my remarks for the Veterans Day parade, when the news broke about the shootings at Fort Hood. As I write this, we know almost nothing about the full scope - or precise causes - of the tragedy. The bare bones are bad enough: soldiers shot by other soldiers.

I will continue to follow the story. My prayers and thoughts are with the families of Fort Hood - and with military families everywhere.

If you are thinking about an appropriate reaction to today’s events in Texas, I suggest coming out to Saturday’s Veterans Parade and Ceremony here. There will be plenty of people around who can share some insight - and who might need your comfort.

The parade will start at 12:00 noon; the pre-parade ceremony will begin at 10:45 a.m. on the steps of the downtown Soldiers’ Memorial.

The parade route will be east bound Olive at 14th; south on 14th to Chestnut; east on Chestnut to Tucker; south on Tucker to Market; west on Market to Union Station at 20th. The parade ends there.

No political debates. Just honoring veterans.
