Did defective safety equipment lead to the deaths of two St. Louis firefighters? That’s what a jury is going to decide in a trial that began last week.
While the lawyers argue the merits back and forth, the City plans to put a bond issue on the ballot in February to buy new protective gear for the Fire Department.
(And to answer an email I received last week: Public Safety Director Sam Simon has asked the equipment’s distributor to refund the money the Fire Department paid for it. He has not ordered the equipment removed from the fire trucks.)
