They say you can’t fight City Hall. What that really means is that cities have reputations for not being responsive to their customers. We — my office and the City’s service departments — are working hard to change that in St. Louis.

It now takes an average of 11 days from the time a resident requests a non-emergency City service until that service is delivered. If you think that is a long time, you should know that average number of days back in 2001 was 23.

That’s pretty clear progress, but City service departments will soon be able to do even better. We are working to install a new information management system that will streamline requests for service to get them in the hands of the right City workers more quickly. The result? Faster service responses in City neighborhoods, less reason to "fight"!
