A few notes about Downtown:

  • Conrad Development has advised me that they are ready to proceed with a new condo project in a Cupples building — and that Rodgers & Townsend will be a commercial tenant in the same building

  • I recently toured Historic Restoration, Inc.’s new Cupples building with HRI officials from St. Louis and New Orleans

  • A New York investor, Harlan Berger, has an agreement to purchase one of Downtown’s most interesting buildings, 700 Market Street — and an interest in purchasing others

  • Orchard Group, closely related to the Freed Group of Chicago, is proceeding with plans to rehab the Eli Walker Building. Their plans include a Borders bookstore and a new urban entryway along St. Charles, between 15th and 16th Streets.

  • The Advisory Committee for the year-long process to suggest new uses for the highest-profile part of the Downtown riverfront will meet next week.

  • In an act of poetic justice, St. Louis Public School superintendent Creg Williams has chosen the former Board of Education building — purchased and rehabbed by the Roberts brothers — as his new residence

  • John Carroll says that he has an agreement to purchase the building on the northwest corner of Tucker and Washington Avenue.
