With the rising cost of fuel, this will be a tough winter for many of our neighbors. So, I thought I would tell you what the City of St. Louis is going to do to help with home energy assistance - and make a suggestion on what you could do to help.

So far this year, the City’s Affordable Housing Commission has awarded $310,000 in grants to provide help with utilities. I plan to ask for more in the coming weeks.

In addition to the funding provided by the Commission, the City’s Human Services Department will distribute $100,000 for home heating assistance from the utility tax fund and $150,000 from grants.

Finally, I plan to help Heat Up St. Louis raise money and public awareness for its programs.

And that is where you can help.

The Heat Up St. Louis mission is to provide utility counsel, referrals, and heat grants to restore "primary home heating sources." They never have enough money or volunteers. Go to heatupstlouis.org if you can help.
