Walking through Downtown this weekend reminded me to tell you about a memo on my desk.
Next week, Downtown Now staff will begin inviting downtown’s businesses, entertainment venues, residents, and other stakeholders to participate in the Traffic Circulation and Access Study being conducted by the City, in partnership with Downtown Now, the Downtown St. Louis Partnership, and the Office of the City Treasurer.
Surveying opinions is a first and an important step in a process that will lead to a safer and more attractive Downtown for businesses, residents, workers, and visitors; better pedestrian and vehicular (four- and two-wheeled) movement within the Central Business District; and improved access into and out of the CBD.
The timing is important. The study will result in a plan that will be implemented in conjunction with the installation of new traffic signal controllers in the CBD in late 2005 and the completion of major downtown developments.
The study area is bounded by Lucas to the north, Interstate 70/Memorial Drive to the east, Spruce to the south and Tucker Boulevard to the west.
I will keep you posted.
