October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Last year, more than 35,000 cases of domestic violence were reported in Missouri. Many others were not reported. Survivors of such violence often worry that their assailants will track them down and hurt them again by finding their addresses on public records.
Secretary of State Robin Carnahan noticed the problem and addressed it last year. The state’s “Safe at Home” program gives survivors a secure, confidential address to list on government documents and at which to receive mail.
Simple idea. Great idea.
