Citing a bad year, the local daily newspaper has begun offering departure incentives to employees who have been with the paper longer than ten years and who are at least 50 years old. Given the increasing lack of institutional memory in the news media, wouldn’t it be a better idea to keep the veteran scribes and encourage some of the newer newshounds to depart? My morning would be very different without a Bill McClellan or a Harry Levins with my breakfast.
