The ordinance for the 2008 Community Development Block Grant and HOME programs was perfected by the Board of Aldermen this morning. The bill budgets approximately $28 million for a variety of continuing programs, like the critical Problem Properties initiatives and community-based housing development corporations; and new major residential and commercial development activities in distressed areas throughout the City.

The Board’s approval of this important legislation is the result of a great deal of constructive, collaborative work between my office and the aldermen, towards our shared goal of revitalizing our neighborhoods in distress. Although we don’t always agree on how to get there, we are all members of the team that is working hard to make our City a better place to live, work and play for everyone.
