If there were a mold out of which great Civic Progress members were cast, I’d argue that it would look a lot like Ben Edwards.
Benjamin F. Edwards III, who retired in 2001 after thirty years of running the prominent investment firm that bore his surname, was a St. Louis business leader who played major, hands-on roles in a range of civic causes. He was one of the most dependable engines of the annual United Way campaign, and he worked on task forces to improve both public health and public education. He was a “first call” for six St. Louis mayors, including me.
He died on Monday in Florida. Kim and I extend our personal sympathies to his surviving family. As mayor, I also offer our City’s thanks.
