At noon (if everything stays on schedule), I will give a short speech to more than a thousand people gathered at the Renaissance Downtown to celebrate many of the City’s veteran and new businesses.

I’ll pledge to continue the City-building efforts that have brought us this far and I’ll ask these "influentials" — who are putting more money and jobs into the City — to keep telling our story.

I will also talk about our progress on some specific goals I set last April:

•Making the City an even better place for business and recreational visitors
•Improving the available workforce by ensuring that kids are healthy, safe, and well-educated
•Adding 10,000 new or substantially rehabbed homes — and 20,000 new residents
•Adding 10,000 new jobs — with greater business opportunities for minorities and “new Americans”
(If you are there, you’ll be among the first to hear what the US Census has told us about the City’s population. The official announcement will happen some time next week.)
