The City’s Affordable Housing Commission, whose work is supported by a use tax, has awarded a million dollars of new grants and loans to several local housing organizations and other developers of affordable housing.

This group of awards was addressed primarily to projects that created permanent housing for families with low incomes; to projects that included three-bedroom units; to projects that were ready to start right away, and to projects that involved partnerships with other agencies that brought significant financial resources to the table.

Among the recipients: a Habitat for Humanity in JeffVanderLou; new phases in Cochran Gardens; the Grand South Senior Apartments; and a development of new homes sponsored by People’s Community Development Corp.
