From an email from South City Prep, a new charter school:

This past Monday, we received a call from St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay's office notifying us that we have received his endorsement to open our school in St. Louis next fall. The Mayor's Education Policy Advisor, Robbyn Wahby, reported that Mayor Slay felt our proposal was one of the strongest that he has read over the past three years.

So, what does this mean for our school? Now that we are endorsed by the Mayor's Office, we can leverage that endorsement as we seek sponsorship, community support and facilities acquisition. The Mayor's endorsement is not required when opening a school in St. Louis, however, it is a strong vote of support as we seek to introduce an academically rigorous college preparatory middle school and high school to the St. Louis educational landscape.

We have many more hurdles to cross as we seek to open our school in 12 months. It is hard to believe that 200 students will be walking through our doors a year from now.

Thanks for your time and support,
