On Tuesday, Mayor Francis Slay hosted a press conference at City Hall to discuss the escalating crisis of home foreclosures.
Standing up with the mayor at the conference were representatives of ACORN and the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis. Pictured here (left to right) are Mayor Slay; Shirley Coleman, a local ACORN board member; Jeff Ordower, Midwest director, ACORN; and James H. Buford, president/CEO of the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis.
The group encouraged City residents who have various financial challenges to keep in touch with their mortgage lenders, and to seek financial counseling. They also called for stronger consumer protection legislation and, when possible, for adjustable-rate mortgages be made into 30 or 40 year fixed rate loans.
