From the Fire Department:

On Friday April 18, 2008 the St. Louis Fire Department will be holding the graduation ceremony for the Stanley P. Newsome Recruit Class of 2008.

The seven recruit class members (6-male and 1-female) successfully completed the rigorous thirteen week training course. During this time they earned certifications as Firefighter 1 & 2, Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations Levels and Medical First Responders. The recruits will also be required to earn their Emergency Medical Technician License within their one year probationary period.

Retired Deputy Chief Stanley P. Newsome whom this class is named after will also be in attendance for the graduation ceremony. D/C Newsome started his career with the St. Louis Fire Department on Feb. 18, 1962 and successfully made his way to the rank of Deputy Chief before retiring on May 20. 2000.

Deputy Chief Newsome’s contribution to the St. Louis Fire Department and the citizens of the City of St. Louis during his thirty-eight year career is truly of monumental proportion.
