Statement of St. Louis County Executive Charlie A. Dooley:
Today, you made progress happen. I am happy for St. Louis County. I am so very proud of all of you.
I thank the voters of St. Louis County for doing the hard thing ... because it was the RIGHT thing.
This measure passed because you took the outcome personally.
The people who benefit from this vote are young and old, black and white, rich and poor. They are our family, our friends, and our neighbors. They are seniors. They are students. They are disabled. They will ride buses and trains to get to work and to look for work.
Your vote helped all these people and made our economy stronger.
First I want to thank all of the voters. Among the hundreds of people who worked on this campaign, I would like to especially thank Mayor John Nations of Chesterfield, Bob Baer of Metro, Nancy Cross of the Service Employees, Rose Windmiller and Chancellor Mark Wrighton of Washington University. And, finally, Marlene, who was the TV star of this campaign. To all of you and to those who worked with you, I offer the thanks of the people of St. Louis County.
The road forward for the St. Louis County community just got a little easier to travel.
Thank you and God bless you.
