The St. Louis Post-Dispatch offered this editorial today:
With only a month remaining until the beleaguered St. Louis public school district loses its accreditation, the school board wants suburban districts to raise the drawbridge on students who might try to transfer out . . .
Raising the drawbridge is not the answer - and it isn’t playing fair. The board showed an appalling lack of respect for concerned parents who merely desire a better education for their children and don’t have years to wait - or waste.
Instead of looking for ways to block students from transferring, the board’s time would be better spent focusing on ideas for improving St. Louis schools. Parents who are confident in the quality of the education their children receive will not run for the exits.
