AirTran Airways announced today that it plans to begin service at Lambert Airport in May. AirTran will fly non-stop between Lambert and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, with connections from there to 36 airports nationwide. The airline also says that it will begin offering daily non-stop service to Orlando International Airport in June.

Mayor Francis Slay said that he was happy AirTran was adding St. Louis to its destinations, and he commended Airport Director Kevin Dolliole for broadening travelers’ choices from Lambert.

AirTran Airways said that it will be “the only carrier out of St. Louis to offer Business Class seating and free XM Satellite Radio on every flight.”

Sounds like a niche.
