From the SLPS press office:

Mayor Francis G. Slay will visit Hickey Elementary on Friday, January 4, to take part in the St. Louis Public School District's Legislators Open House and their new reading initiative "A Million Minutes by March." After visiting with Principal Peggy Starks, the mayor will read to students in one of the school's classrooms.

"A Million Minutes by March" is a district-wide program that challenges all students to read a minimum of twenty minutes each day outside of the classroom. The goal is to encourage children and teenagers to develop strong, lifelong reading habits; view reading as a rewarding leisure activity; and engage parents/guardians in their children's educations.
