All four ramps of the Kingshighway Boulevard/I-64 interchange will be closed this weekend as crews from Gateway Constructors perform some of the final work activities needed for completion of the interchange.
Starting at 10:00 p.m. Friday, August 15 and lasting until early Sunday, August 17, the eastbound entrance and exit, and the westbound entrance and exit at I-64 and Kingshighway will be closed. Crews will be striping the new pavement and connecting and properly positioning overhead traffic signals. During this activity, one lane of Kingshighway Boulevard will also be closed in each direction, between Manchester Road and Hospital Plaza for northbound, and between Hospital Plaza and Oakland Avenue for southbound.
To reach Kingshighway Boulevard while the ramps are closed, eastbound I-64 traffic should exit at Vandeventer Avenue; go north to Forest Park Parkway and then west to Kingshighway. Westbound I-64 traffic should exit at Forest Park Parkway and continue west to Kingshighway.
Motorists will find the new ramps and signals in the interchange fully operational by early Monday morning, at the latest.
Once this weekend’s work is complete the interchange will be in its final configuration, except for streetscape enhancements requested and paid for by Washington University School of Medicine, Barnes Jewish Hospital and St. Louis Children’s Hospital. That work will include median planters, sidewalks and enhanced lighting and should be completed by October of this year. Motorists should expect occasional Kingshighway lane restrictions on the north side of the bridge while this work is underway.
