Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder has informed his hometown newspaper (and, therefore, MayorSlay.com) that September’s hotly anticipated Tour of Missouri - a world-class cycling event between Kansas City and St. Louis (via Springfield, Branson, Columbia and Jeff City) - will include the sport’s top ranked riding team, Team Discovery Channel.
The Tour’s Sunday, September 16, stop in St. Louis will coincide with the third game of a Cards/Cubs homestand and a Rams/49ers game. The same weekend is also the Balloon Glow and the Great Balloon Race in Forest Park.
Discovery has won 19 events around the world this year - and is Lance Armstrong’s former team. Discovery is also the only American team to have won all of cycling premier competitions - the Tour de France (seven times), Tour of Spain and Tour of Italy.
Kinder also announced that he will not be competing in the Tour.
