The General Assembly has voted to designate the crayfish as Missouri’s Official Invertebrate and the big bluestem as the state’s Official Grass.

If Gov. Matt Blunt signs the laws, the tasty freshwater crustacean and the tall prarie plant will join the white hawthorn, the bluebird, the honeybee, the mule, the Norton/Cythiana grape, the American bullfrog, and other well-lobbied animals, vegetables, and minerals on the long roster of state symbols.
