A recent request by Mayor Francis Slay for readers’ suggestions for candidates to be included in the state’s Hall of Famous Missourians brought some great nominations, among them:

  • James S. “Mac” McDonnell, an aviation pioneer and founder of McDonnell Aircraft Co. in St. Louis
  • John Jordan “Buck” O’Neil, a player and manager for the Negro League’s Kansas City Monarchs
  • Dr. Margaret “Petch” Sayer Peden, Mizzou professor emeritus and translator of the works of Isabelle Allende and others
  • William Bradley “Brad” Pitt, actor and (according to several enthusiastic nominators) heartthrob who was raised in Springfield

The decision on inductees to the Hall is the prerogative of the Speaker of the Missouri House of Representatives. Perhaps somebody (are your reading this, John Combest?) will bring this item to the honorable Speaker’s attention.
