The eighth annual GO! St. Louis Family Fitness Weekend, scheduled for April 5 & 6, 2008 in Forest Park and downtown St. Louis, will bring more than 50,000 people together to celebrate fitness. The two-day event is Missouri's premier fitness experience with seven different races for all ages and abilities. Participants from 43 states and seven countries will visit St. Louis to compete in one of the seven events.
The endurance races set for Sunday, features a Marathon (26.2 miles), Half Marathon (13.1 miles) and a four-person Marathon Relay (6 miles), including the Battle of Badges competition. The family day set for Saturday in Forest Park will offer a variety events for the entire family, including a 5K Run/Walk, Children's Fun Runs, Read, Right & Run Marathon®, a Diaper Dash for the toddlers and a Mature Mile for adults 60 years-of age and older.
On Sunday, the marathon race course begins at Market and 13th Street and continues through the City of St. Louis, winds through Forest Park, continues on through Clayton and University City, before ending downtown at Soldier's Memorial. The Marathoners and Half Marathoners compete side-by-side until the nine mile mark where the half marathon participants loop back and continue downtown. The Half Marathon, presented by National City was introduced in 2003. It has become the most popular race with more than 10,000 runners and walkers expected to cross the finish line, making it one of the largest Half Marathon races in the United States.
In addition to the weekend fitness events a two-day health & fitness expo will be held at the Hyatt Regency Riverfront (Formerly Adam's Mark Hotel), where participants pick up their race packets and have the opportunity to visit with various vendors and organizations interested in fitness. The expo is free and open to the general public. And on Saturday at 5:30 pm, the annual pasta party will be held at the Old Post Office in downtown St. Louis. The party is sponsored by The Pasta House Company and features special guest speaker Kristin Armstrong, who is an author, accomplished marathoner and frequent contributor to Runner's World Magazine.
The event registration process started in September and is continuing, with openings still available. A race cap was introduced this year for the marathon, half marathon and marathon relay events. With four weeks before the events start, runners and walkers are encouraged to sign up today, to avoid being left out of one of the events. Participants interested in registering should visit gostlouis.org or call 314-727-0800.
