A water main break has caused pavement to buckle on Hampton Avenue between I-44 and I-64, which will result in the closure of some lanes. City crews are currently on the scene to repair the water main break and subsequent damage to the roadway. Work will continue at least through tomorrow morning. Expect delays in traffic through this afternoon's rush hour and tomorrow morning's rush hour. The worst damage has occurred on Hampton's southbound lanes.

Because that stretch of Hampton is one of the busiest thoroughfares in the City, Streets Director Todd Waelterman is strongly encouraging individuals to take one of the recommended detour routes on their drive home this evening. Kingshighway and McCausland should be used as alternate routes.

"Drivers on both I-44 and I-64 should pay close attention to the Hampton exit," said Director Waelterman. "We expect both highways to see backups at Hampton."

The City's streets department is working to repair the problem as quickly as possible.
