Why are the ribbons of water in the fountain at Kiener Plaza a bright blue?

Thanks to the wizards at the City’s Parks Department, the blue water is an acknowledgement of Blue Ribbon Month to call community attention to the continuing problem of child abuse. Blue Ribbon Month encourages the public to support efforts to strengthen families as the best way to prevent child abuse.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the first Presidential declaration of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. Since 1989, a blue ribbon has been widely recognized as a national symbol of child abuse prevention.
