From the Census office, via the home office:

Today, Mayor Francis G. Slay challenged the people of St. Louis to complete and mail back the 2010 Census form in an effort to eclipse the area's Census 2000 mail participation rates. In an effort to get Missourians excited about the 2010 Census, Mayor Slay and Kansas City Mayor Mark Funkhouser have agreed on a friendly competition to see which City improves its Census mail-in response by the highest percentage from 2000-2010. The losing Mayor will have to send the winner a case of his hometown's favorite beer and most delicious barbeque.

"The 2010 Census is vitally important to our City and a complete count means more money allocated for many of the things you like in your neighborhood. St. Louis has a lot to lose if we don't get a complete count. St. Louis is a growing city and a friendly wager with Kansas City's Mayor Funkhouser is a fun way to prove it. Please, take a few minutes to fill out the Census form for yourself and everyone who lives in your house. And don't forget to mail in your form!
