One of the City’s liveliest summer celebrations will take place this weekend as residents of the Soulard neighborhood (and French-republicans-for-a-day from throughout the region) gather for 27th annual celebration of Soulard Bastille Days.

The two-day event will kick off Friday at 6 pm with a Farewell For The Royals at Russell and Menard. Participants will gather at Joanie’s Pizzeria, 2101 Menard Street; Johnny’s Restaurant, 1017 Russell Boulevard; and The Bastille, 1027 Russell Boulevard.

Joia, a really loud drumming group, will storm the streets and lead a parade to the guillotine in front of Nadine’s Gin Joint at 12th Street and Allen.

Soulard Bastille Days will continue Saturday with a flea market in Soulard Market park. The Alley Mutts will perform from noon to 4 p.m.
